How a long tube float turned into a band.
Our Story
Lonestar Lions started where most good San Marcos stories do — on a tube float that ran long. Four friends from the Texas State music scene, a cooler of cold ones, and a couple of acoustics that came along for the ride. By the take-out at the Lions Club, we had the bones of our first song and a name to match.
We play river-roots music: dancehall rhythm, gulf-coast soul, and the kind of harmonies that carry over moving water. We've cut our teeth at Cheatham Street, Gruene Hall, and every float series and festival stage between Austin and the coast.
The lions on our banner aren't just a logo — they're how we move through the world. Live free. Stay wild. Ride the river. Pull up a tube and stay a while.
